HTC Touch Pro

The next generation starts here...

The HTC Touch Pro brings together innovative touch screen response with the direct precision of keyboard entry… leaving out nothing to deliver a powerhouse communication tool in a beautiful, compact design. The 2.8-inch VGA touch screen provides four times the resolution of most smart devices, making email, documents and web pages sharper and easier to work with than ever before. HTC’s touch-responsive interface, TouchFLO 3D, provides a fascinating iway to zip through common tasks like messaging, calendar checks or making calls.

Please note the HTC Touch Pro is available for shipment now at Dechowireless

Blue,

To be able to get any valid information or draw rational conclusions regarding a technical real world comparison, it is essential that the comparison is apples to apples. You took results from two devices that were benchmarked under different test conditions. There is no technical validity to that comparison whatsoever.

In addition, the information from the site you referenced is hotly contested by the commenters. I also find it suspicious that the so called developer that posted this article did not just put up the screen shots rather than transcribing the information manually.

The current evidence points to the Pro and HD being faster than the Diamond.

Regarding the battery life, I do not understand how you can argue the fact that power management routines (which are in all mobile devices) have the ability to lower the ceiling for processor performance for the purposes of saving battery life. If you understand that fact, you must understand that these parameters can be tweeked to allow more performance (no matter how menial) when you have a larger battery capacity to start with. Ergo, the indirect relationship between battery capacity and performance.

Finally, when you combine the power management tweeking with the fact that the Pro and HD have more RAM (a more noticeable performance enhancer which you seem to agree with) it's a no brainer that they would show faster overall performance over the Diamond. There has yet to be any valid evidence to support otherwise, but if you find it I would be interested in seeing it.
The headphone symbol, is referring to the mini-USB socket, just like the USB symbol on the other side of the socket. Unfortunately, the soft reset button happens to be at the wrong place (under the headphone symbol).

BTW, after using for a week, I say this phone rocks! Coming from somebody who had refuse to use touch screen after getting a hang on keyboards.
about 4min50 into the video...that reset button that you mention looks like a headphone symbol to me...and the picture seems to confirm it. Wrong Icon or new sized headphone standard
The response on that device is just... WOW! It might just peel me away from my current gadget lust for the Treo Pro.
Physboy,

I followed the link you provided, and sure enough you would expect the Pro to be much faster than the Diamond. However, I remember that someone on XDA Developers had run the same benchmarks on a Diamond. Here are their results contrasted with the Pro results cited in the article you recommended:

SPB CPU Index
Diamond: 2284.49
Pro: 2190

SPB File Index
Diamond: 193.07
Pro: 176.7

SPB Graphics Index
Diamond: 1656.64
Pro: 1573.4

Based on what I see here, I'm not prepared to make a call on who's faster based on these benchmarks, I'll only say that we're taking about identical chips sets running stock at the same clock speed and VCC.

Also, as we would expect, battery capacity has no effect on these benchmarks. With identical chipsets, any power-saving and/or performance-sapping "features" can be applied or not applied to either device.

For those interested, the XDA referebce is

Lies, damned lies, and statistics!
So far benchmarks are showing the Pro to be faster than the Diamond.
Nice review, but i remember you promised a new review of Touch Diamond. As far as I noticed by now, the new ROM 1.93 is "transforming" the Diamond so much different from the one in your review, as one may think is another phone. Try to use the Diamond with the new 1.93 ROM and give us your opinion comparing to Touch PRO also.
great job, anyway! keep up!
Looks like a solid business device.
Oh I only saw it was for Sprint I think and I didn't know they had switched to GSM phones. But if that is the case then GREAT! Means I can get the US version unlocked!
@Fugita It's a bit confusing but WCDMA is a GSM technology. This phone is a GSM phone. Great review Dave!
Have we heard anything about the Pro coming to the US as a GSM unit, yet? I would buy it unlocked if it supported 3G and was GSM instead of WCDMA, and as nice as it is I bet the Power Users out there would enjoy a nice device like this as well!
See what happens when you match up better hardware with software???? Great in depth look though.
Great review Dave, I agree this is one great device now that HTC improved so many things over the Diamond.
If only it a 3.5mm headphone jack -- rather major oversight :(
UK version folks, don't forget!!
Thanks I really worked hard on this one. Be sure to click the video and checkout the youtube version in HD.
I agree nice review and the video is fantastic!
Good review Dave! Nice quality video.
